The Athens Food Policy Council grew out of the March 2009 Athens Town Hall Meeting and a grant from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the Center for Farmland Preservation and Innovation, The Athens Mayor's Office, and the Athens County Commissioners.
Council members include community residents, organization leaders, University professors and researchers, local businesspersons, and government officials who are committed to developing a progressive and innovative set of policies around land use that fosters the intersection where food production, food security, and economic development meet.
Council Structure:
Council members are asked to-
1. make a one-year commitment to AFPC (with the option to renew for subsequent years).
2. lead or participate in a council working group
AFPC will meet every 2 months to discuss project updates and use this online forum for info sharing and discussion. NEXT MEETING will be December 11.

Here at last is the policy brief on the Athens Food Policy Council that was written after our first year, when I was coordinator. Wow. We've come a long way!
I will be coordinating the council again until we settle on a new coordinator. Congrats to Mary Nally, who has done a stellar job of facilitating the Council for the last year plus as she takes over as Executive Director of Community Food Initiatives. If only we could clone her!
