Rural Action & Chesterhill Produce Auction host USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Certification Training
for growers and other fresh produce handlers. This is a great training for all growers interested in selling direct to grocers and supermarkets, and those committed to food safety.
The training will be led by Hal Kneen & Mark Koenig of OSU Extension Fruit & Vegetable Food Safety Team and
participants will learn about:
- the costs and impact of diseases and outbreaks caused by foodborne pathogens
- strategies for controlling potential microbial food safety hazards before planting and throughout all phases of production planting, production, harvesting and
postharvest handling
- the USDA Third Party Audit process
You will also receive a Farm Safety & Records binder for your farm which will make it easy to keep track of good agricultural practices and contains produce specs from wholesale buyers such as Kroger.
